"Trusting the Process: Sharon Thompson on Overcoming Obstacles with Faith and Courage"
Thank you for taking the time to speak with us today, Sharon! Please share with our readers who you are and what you do.
Hello, I’m Sharon Thompson. I’m a God-fearing, strong woman of standards, morals, and values. I’m also a budding author and entrepreneur. For the past seven years, I’ve worked with Atrium Health as a Project Support (Capital Finance) professional with the plan, design, and construction team. Outside of that, I’ve had the privilege of serving as an unofficial missionary, having traveled on mission trips to Puerto Rico (twice), Belize, and Ghana, where I was able to serve Community 2 School in Tema.
I’m deeply committed to growth. My personal and professional journey has been about finding balance and purpose while always remembering to put God first in everything I do.
This year has flown by, and we’re just a few weeks away from a brand-new year! As you reflect on 2024, what is your biggest lesson learned, and how did it shape your decision to move boldly into your next chapter?
Looking back on 2024, my biggest lesson is that NO is a complete sentence. And you know what? God still loves me. I’ve realized that taking care of myself has to be the number one priority each day. Doing so has allowed me to understand how short life really is, and how years of delay, fear, and low self-esteem—combined with believing what man has said about me—can rob me of my purpose.
But now, I understand that God’s love for me is complete, and I am enough just as I am. This lesson has shaped my decision to boldly move into my next chapter with a renewed sense of confidence, focusing on who God says I am and pursuing the passions He’s put in my heart.
Resilience is such a powerful theme that speaks to the fierce spirit of women, but we sometimes face setbacks that can feel overwhelming. What was one obstacle in 2024 that pushed you to dig deeper and keep going, and what did you learn about your strength in the process?
One of the biggest obstacles I faced in 2024 was a health challenge that led to surgery. It wasn’t easy, and recovery brought on many challenges. But I knew my story and my legacy were far from over, so I had to keep pushing through the pain. What I learned from that experience is that while I am weak in the natural, my spirit is STRONG.
This health setback made me realize that I could face physical limitations, but my internal strength—my faith and resilience—would always carry me through. I learned that my spirit carries me when the body is tired and that perseverance comes from within.
That’s so amazing, Sista! So listen, we know resilience isn’t always about bouncing back—it’s sometimes about growing through the mess! Is there a time when you turned a difficult situation into an opportunity for personal or professional growth?
Yes, absolutely. Right now, I’m embracing the challenge of balancing The Second Wind anthology and my business, OneSource Logistic Solutions, LLC. There were times I felt like giving up on both of them—there were sleepless nights, negative thoughts, and the weight of healing from surgery. But then, God sent me some Destiny Helpers—people who prayed with me, stepped in with patience and love, and encouraged me when I felt like I couldn’t keep going.
Through their support, I realized that I couldn’t do it all on my own, and that’s okay. This process taught me to lean into others when needed and trust that God would guide me to the right people at the right time. It also reinforced the lesson that no matter how tough things get, God’s got a plan for me, and I can’t let negativity or doubts from myself or others hold me back.
Okay, before we go, I have one last question. Well, it really has two parts... Looking ahead to 2025, how will you use what you’ve learned to create a better tomorrow for yourself? And what advice would you give to women who are also looking to strengthen their resilience for the new year?
Looking ahead to 2025, I plan to use everything I’ve learned from my hard times to create a future that’s intentional, aligned with my values and focused on growth. I now know that God has so much more for me, and I look forward to stepping into new opportunities with confidence—even when I can’t see the full picture. Sometimes, growth comes through trusting the process, even when the details aren’t clear.
As for advice to other women: No matter what life brings, you have everything inside you to get through it. Stand strong because it will pass. Trust the process, and if you don’t know God, get to know Him. He can turn your mess into a message, and you will never look like what you’ve been through. Remember, you are your first priority. When you take care of yourself, you’re in a better position to help others.
Thank You, Sista!
